Five young students from Guanajuato will be in a stay to develop a research project on space science and technology at the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration Center (NASA).

“We are proud of this news, I congratulate the young people of Guanajuato who will be part of this experience, we are going to continue providing tools for the growth and development of the State,” said Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, Governor of the State of Guanajuato.

Through the “Mission Greatness” call, the five young people who will participate in an in-person experience lasting 16 weeks were chosen, who will have a 100% scholarship awarded by the Government of Guanajuato, through JuventudEsGTO.

“It is a source of pride to announce that five young Guanajuatenses will spend a research stay at NASA, which is a historic event for our state. This achievement highlights Guanajuato as a State that supports and provides the necessary tools to its youth to achieve their dreams and contribute to the scientific and technological development of Mexico”, said Araceli Reyes, general director of JuventudEsGTO.

The students are: 

Elizabeth del Rosario Salas Sandoval, from the municipality of Romita and student of the master’s degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Guanajuato, Salas will join project 22 at the Ames Research Center in California, on innovation in advanced life support

Diego Octavio Jimenez Robles, from Leon, a student of in Mechatronics Engineering at the Universidad Iberoamericana de Leon, Jimenez will participate in project 47 at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, which consists of a reconfigurable modular robot for space applications

Flavio Cesar Nieto Ruiz, from Celaya, student of Mechatronics Engineering at the Celaya Institute of Technology will join project 48 at the Space Flight Center in Maryland, which consists of the Spacecraft Attitude Control System (ACS) or the more general Guidance, Navigation and Control System (GN&C)

Cristian Chacon Valdez, from Moroleón, student of Electronics Engineering at the Instituto Tecnologico del Sur de Guanajuato, will participate in project 47 of the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, which consists of a reconfigurable modular robot for space applications

Brandon Kevin Ramirez Robles, from Irapuato, student of Computer Systems Engineering at the Instituto Tecnologico Superior de Irapuato, who will join project 49 at the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York, which consists of machine learning approaches to accelerate recoveries of satellites

In 2023 JuventudEsGTO and the Mexican Space Agency signed a collaboration agreement to promote the interest and participation of young people from Guanajuato in the aerospace industry, which led for the doors of NASA to be opened for this event that will bring the young students from Guanajuato to the exciting world of space and technology.
