The trade mission reaffirms the positioning of Guanajuatense footwear in Guatemala and El Salvador

Silao/Gto News

With the strong support of the People’s Government, and as part of the vision to promote local businesses toward internationalization, COFOCE conducted a trade mission in coordination with the municipalities of San Francisco del Rincon and Purisima del Rincon.

This initiative allowed Guanajuato footwear companies to prospect clients in two of Central America’s most strategic markets: Guatemala and El Salvador.

The favorable conditions, geographic location, and recognition of the quality of Mexican footwear in these countries make Guatemala and El Salvador natural markets for the expansion of Guanajuato’s industry.

Guatemala is already the second-largest trading partner of Guanajuato in footwear exports, placing Mexico as the fourth-largest supplier to that country, according to COFOCE figures as of the closing of 2024.

Meanwhile, El Salvador has shown sustained growth, with a GDP increasing at a rate of 3.5 percent annually, which translates into a scenario of high potential, with Mexico ranking sixth as a supplier.

During this mission, six Guanajuato MSMEs dedicated to casual, children’s, and industrial footwear, conducted prospecting activities with key clients such as distributors, retail chains, catalog sales, and private label marketers, through more than 30 business meetings and showrooms in both countries.

In Guatemala, participating companies made 18 sales visits and presented their products in a strategic showroom, generating interest from companies such as Belsa, Family Shoes, Mundi Moda, and GRE Mapsa, among other.

The business opportunities identified include immediate orders, distribution agreements, and ongoing negotiations, although areas for improvement were also identified, such as the need for certifications for certain products and adjustments in style or price for specific segments.

In El Salvador, 16 meetings were held, highlighting a showroom at the facilities of Grupo ADOC, one of the leading footwear conglomerates in Central America. Local companies showed strong interest in integrating Guanajuato brands into their lines, especially in children and industrial products, consolidating new business opportunities in the short and medium term.

The vision of the Guanajuato State Government, through COFOCE, is clear: to open more doors to the world for products made in Guanajuato, strengthening the export capacities of MSMEs and promoting market diversification.

The vision of State Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo and COFOCE, of taking more Guanajuatense companies to cross borders, improve their processes, and transform their environment is moving forward.
