With the firm purpose of promoting a proactive culture in the management and responsible use of water, the Secretary of Education of Guanajuato -SEG- and the State Water Commission of Guanajuato -CEAG- have awarded the “ Sustainable School, Let’s Save Now” to 15 basic level education institutions.
The ceremony, held at the Ramón García Garibay general secondary school, reflects the efforts to confront the drought and take care of one of the most precious resources: water.
In the event, the Secretary of Education of Guanajuato, Jorge Enrique Hernandez Meza, emphasized the importance of this vital resource. “The value of water is inestimable. We cannot conceive life without it, and it is crucial that our students understand and practice its care from now on,” said Hernandez.
This distinction is an essential part of the State Water Culture Program, which seeks to integrate sustainable practices and knowledge about water management in the education system.
The recognized schools, are in municipalities such as Abasolo, Acambaro, Apaseo el Alto, Apaseo el Grande, Celaya, Leon, Manuel Doblado, San Diego de la Union and Valle de Santiago and they have demonstrated an exemplary commitment in detecting and repairing leaks, maintenance of hydraulic systems, and the implementation of strategies to save water.
The program is distinguished by its comprehensive approach that not only covers infrastructure and water consumption, but also education and awareness of the entire school community.
The indicators evaluated include the reduction of water consumption, the active participation of support staff, the implementation of a teaching plan, and collaboration with parents and external organizations. All of this is part of a coordinated effort to ensure that students develop a deep understanding and responsible attitude toward water use.
This initiative is not only reflected in the decrease in water consumption in participating schools, but also in the growing awareness and participation of the entire education community in environmental protection. With these actions, Guanajuato takes a firm step towards sustainability, teaching new generations the value of water and the importance of its conservation.
