“We know what trains generate in our communities and municipalities: development, progress, well-being, and above all, the connection between families, which fills us with so much emotion,” said Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, as she led the laying of the cornerstone of the Queretaro–Irapuato Inter-City Train in Apaseo el Grande.

In a live broadcast during the morning press conference of the Mexican President, the Governor of Guanajuato and the Governor of Queretaro, Mauricio Kuri Gonzalez, gave the green light for the construction of the first 30.3 kilometers of the Queretaro-Apaseo el Grande stretch.

“We are very pleased to begin this phase, which will allow us to generate mobility between our municipalities. We will connect the people who live in our State with other neighboring States,” said the Governor of Guanajuato.

The project consists of 108.2 kilometers of double track, designed to operate between 200 and 360 kilometers per hour. The train will connect families and industry in the region through stations and stops in Queretaro, Apaseo el Grande, Celaya, Villagran/Cortazar, Salamanca, Irapuato, and, recently, Leon.

Andres Lajous Loaeza, head of the Railway Transport Regulatory Agency, added that the Apaseo el Grande to Mexico City section is estimated to have an estimated daily demand of 30,000 people, generating more than 1,500 direct jobs and more than 8,200 indirect jobs.

With an investment of 98.749 billion pesos, this project represents a turning point in mobility in the Bajio region, shortening distances, generating economic benefits, and ensuring safer travel. In its first phase, demand is estimated at more than 4 million trips annually.

At this groundbreaking ceremony, the Governor was accompanied by Engineer Jesus Antonio Esteva Medina, Secretary of Communications and Transportation of the Government of Mexico; the Secretary of Government, Jorge Daniel Jimenez Lona; the Secretary of Public Works, Juan Pablo Perez Beltran; and the Mayor of Apaseo el Grande, Jose Luis Oliveros Usabiaga.
