The Secretary of Security and Peace, through the State Coordination of Civil Protection in collaboration with municipal authorities, made it posible for the passage of 413,841 pilgrims through Guanajuato to be reported with no incidents.

During the first ordinary session of the State Civil Protection Council, coordinator Luis Antonio Guereca Perez reported that the total number of pilgrims exceeded the estimated projection for this year.

“It’s not a small number; it’s a very high influx of people in a short period, and to have a clean record in this type of operation is quite an achievement,” said the Undersecretary of Security, Hugo Cesar Romero Rodriguez.

The State agency maintained support for 141 pilgrimages from Leon, Purisima del Rincon and Ocampo, of which 71 were on foot, 67 by bicycle, and three on horseback.

Of the 413,841 pilgrims, 374,988 came from Leon, 31,470 from Purisima del Rincon, and 7,383 from Ocampo. 87% made the journey on foot.

There were also 802 pre-hospital and medical care services provided, as well as trade control patrols, which consisted of 179 health checks and evaluations, as well as more than 2,000 deliveries of gloves and face masks.

The State Public Security Forces (FSPE) recorded two traffic accidents, as well as the search and location of four people and seven injured on routes to San Juan de los Lagos.

The special operation “Passage of Pilgrims to San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco 2026” took place from January 16 to February 5.

Enrique Guevara Ortiz, Director General of the National Center for Disaster Prevention (CENAPRED), presented the “Governance and Public Policy Index in Comprehensive Risk Management” (IGOPP), and the “State Disaster Risk Management Index” (IGR), evaluations in which Guanajuato ranks third nationally.

“Guanajuato ranks third in both assessments, in both numbers. What isn’t measured can’t be improved, and this is how we can move forward in disaster risk management,” said the Director.
