Through the State Vehicle Verification Program, citizens contribute to improve air quality

Improving air quality in Guanajuato is a commitment shared by society and government. Through the participation of citizens in the State Vehicle Verification Program -PEVV-, citizens contribute to the reduction of emissions, which is reflected in their health.
This was noted by the head of the Ministry of Environment and Territorial Planning -SMAOT- Maria Isabel Ortiz Mantilla when reporting that beyond the issue of the cost, it is an issue of attention to the environment and health, since vehicle verification reduces polluting emissions through verification of the proper functioning of motor vehicles in circulation, abiding to the official Mexican standards.
By reducing the emission of pollutants, risks from lung and cardiovascular diseases are prevented, the vulnerable population is protected. According to the preliminary report for the second half of 2023, there is progress in the PEVV of 37.44%, representing 650,180 verifications.
SMAOT calls on citizens who own vehicles to comply with this obligation in accordance with the provisions of the Law for the Protection and Preservation of the Environment of the State of Guanajuato.
Available to the population there are 109 authorized vehicle verification centers, which are located in 30 of the 46 municipalities of Guanajuato, (for compliance with the regulations applicable in the national territory NOM-047-SEMARNAT-2014); which can be located through the EcoApp application and/or the site:

With the purpose of facilitating free transit for people who need to travel to the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico, since 2009 the State of Guanajuato has maintained the Coordination Agreements with the governments of the State of Mexico and Mexico City, with the recognition of the certificates and badges of the type “Double Zero”, “Zero”, “One” and “Two” issued by the Verificentros authorized by the SMAOT, as well as the “Exempt” type badge that it grants.
There are three Verificentros, located in Leon, Irapuato and Celaya, which operate through the computer system of the Secretary of the Environment of Mexico City.
In Guanajuato, vehicles in circulation contribute 30% of the total emissions of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and 8% of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) generated, both precursors of Ozone (O3), all of them pollutants harmful to the environment and human health.
A well-maintained car with its emissions control devices installed and functioning properly reduces the population’s exposure to atmospheric pollutants.
Starting the year car owners verify vehicles with license plates finished in 5, 6, 7 and 8 according to the first two months of this year.
