Brussels World Competition Mexico has started

CMB is held for the first time in America and for the second time outside of Europe, with Guanajuato as the venue for this great event

“The Brussels World Competition turns Leon into the world capital of wine for a few days. An extraordinary opportunity to project the rich historical and cultural heritage of Guanajuato, and the magnificent quality of our wines that has been recognized globally, with more than 350 national and international medals,” said Governor Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo at the inauguration of the Brussels World Competition Mexico.

In this World Competition, more than 7,500 labels from the best wineries and vineyards from 46 countries compete. In addition, 671 wines from Mexico are present, of which 117 labels are from Guanajuato.

The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles -CMB- is held for the first time in America and for the second time outside of Europe, with Guanajuato as the venue for this great event that is the most prestigious wine competition in the world.

The Governor thanked the 350 judges participating in this event, whom he invited to return to their countries and become ambassadors and spokespersons of the culture of Guanajuato.

“I am sure that the Brussels World Competition will boost the international projection of Guanajuato and Mexican producers, providing the opportunity for their wines to be recognized worldwide.

It will also support the tourist projection of Guanajuato throughout the world, with all our cultural wealth and historical greatness”, said Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo.

The CMB takes place within the framework of Guanajuato Wine Week, which is held from June 4 to 9.

This competition is based on blind tasting by international experts and aims to create a reliable quality seal for consumers, provide producers with promotional tools recognized by the industry and the general public, and promote the host region and the local partners of the organization.

Guanajuato in the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles:

• Participant since 2017, on platforms associated with the CMB
• 533 wines from Guanajuato have participated
• 60 Silver medals
• 37 Gold medals
• 8 Great Gold medals

Currently, the Guanajuato “Independence Valley” Wine Route has 108 members who contribute to regional economic and tourism development.

Guanajuato is the sixth State in Mexico in grape planting and fourth in wine production and stands out with more than 40 wineries and more than 500 hectares of vineyards, consolidating itself as a benchmark in wine production; and has six producing municipalities:

• SMA, Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato, San Felipe, San Francisco del Rincon and Salvatierra.

Present at this inauguration were the President of the Brussels World Competition in Mexico, Baudouin Havaux; Carlos Borboa, director for Latin America and North America of the Brussels World Competition and other City and State Authorities.
