With an investment exceeding 2,881 million pesos, airport infrastructure and services will be expanded

The Bajio International Airport (BJX) will begin its most important modernization phase in the last two decades with an investment of over 2.881 billion pesos, aimed at strengthening its operational capacity, improving the passenger experience, and consolidating Guanajuato’s connectivity with Mexico and the world.
This historic investment, announced at the Bajio International Airport Advisory Commission, will be applied between 2025 and 2029 for the expansion and modernization of strategic infrastructure, with the goal of supporting the sustained growth of the air terminal, which in 2025 exceeded 3 million passengers annually and maintains operations to more than 21 national and international destinations.
The Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, said that these investments reflect trust in Guanajuato and translate into greater connectivity, increased development, and new opportunities for the people of Guanajuato.
The Bajio International Airport, located in Silao and operated by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico (GAP), is one of the main connectivity hubs of the Bajio region, linking Guanajuato with national destinations and with the United States, in addition to consolidating new international routes such as the direct flight to Madrid, recently announced.
Among the main actions announced is the expansion of more than 23 percent of the terminal building as well as its modernization, which will strengthen the attention to users, as well as optimize the security, migration and boarding processes.
The baggage claim area will be expanded by 49 percent, and two new lines will be added at the Security Checkpoint, along with three new boarding gates, bringing the airport’s total to nine. In addition, two new baggage carousels with simplified customs inspection and five autonomous immigration checkpoints will be installed to expedite passenger flow.
The expansion of the Last Waiting Room is also planned to increase by 150 percent, with the purpose of providing greater comfort to travelers in the processes prior to boarding.
In terms of airfield and operations, the aircraft platform will be expanded by 58 percent and new aircraft positions will be enabled, reaching a total of 15, which will allow meeting a greater demand for flights and strengthening the air connectivity of the region.
The investment will be distributed over several years:
- 740 million pesos in 2025
- 222 million in 2026
- 705 million in 2027
- 671 million in 2028
- 523 million in 2029
