By participating in the First Latin American Meeting of Police Academies, the Executive Secretary of the State Public Security System, Sophia Huett Lopez, highlighted the importance of training in corporations, and thus face the challenges that arise both from violence in families and from organized crime, and make the best decisions.
In the case of Guanajuato, convinced and aware of this, of how important it is, and that the only way to make the best decisions and face the challenges is through continuous training, the municipal security corporations are supported through the State Fund for the Strengthening of Municipal Public Security, which are entirely State resources that in 2023 reached one billion pesos, in equipment such as:
- Vehicles, helmets, vests, radios, accessories, but the most important, training
“So far in this administration, headed by Governor Diego Sihue Rodriguez Vallejo, there are more than 41,500 professionalization services in 52 topics adopted to ensure that the police have a staggered level of learning, that they evolve in “topics that face challenges such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and a challenge that has to be addressed by the police in investigative work and the Accusatory Criminal System, among other”.
The head of the Secretary noted that in terms of security, “one never stops learning, there is always something new, and that is very important. Whoever assumes that they have already learned everything and is on their way out, is failing to do the most important thing, which is learning and precisely this encounter is what lets us discover new experiences, new practices and new horizons”.
“I believe that precisely this type of reunion is what will allow us to find good practices, not inventions or occurrences, but good practices that have been effective in other countries. There are countries, such as Costa Rica, Chile and Colombia, where the police have managed to generate a relationship of extreme trust with society, because it is quality human capital, that has been constantly in the classrooms, a prestige in society and that citizens themselves defend their institutions”, said Sophia Huett Lopez.
“Learning in all aspects, in the technical part, in knowledge and in the political part is something that I would also hope we will find in this Latin American Meeting of Police Academies, they are unique opportunities, which we have to take advantage of and learn beyond our horizons”, said Huett.
Huett also said that last Wednesday, recognitions were given to the municipal police officers who have gone beyond the line of duty, as the municipal police are the first level of contact with citizens, and the one that face the most challenges.
Huett Lopez stressed the importance of not improvising with security institutions every 3 or 6 years when political changes occur, and that all they do is end police careers and cut off learning.
“The reality is that in order to prepare a police officer it will take us a long time and those who pay for it are the citizens, also those who have lived and defended a vocation to serve and protect the population,” said Huett.
