Four municipalities in Guanajuato receive Declaration of Origin for Mezcal

Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, during the broadcast of the program “Connecting with the People” said that the Madrid-Guanajuato air route will begin with two weekly flights, representing a strategic advance for the international connectivity of our State.
The Governor said that the new flight represents an immediate increase of over 21% in the arrival of Spanish tourists during the first year of operation, driven by the elimination of stops and the reduction of travel times. There has also been an additional 22% growth in European tourism, as Madrid takes advantage of its role as a connecting hub for other markets such as France, Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
In “Connecting with the People”, the Governor was with Maria Guadalupe Robles Leon, Secretary of Tourism and Identity; Roberto Garcia Urbano, Mayor of Purisima del Rincon; and Martha Rocio Lopez Galvan, president of the Association of Organizers and Venues for Events of San Miguel de Allende, to talk about the results achieved in the working tour that was held in Madrid, during the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), in which Mexico was the Partner Country.
The Governor said that it was a well-planned and very strategic tour to put Guanajuato in the world’s spotlight, positioning it in international investor and tourism circles, with a tour aligned with the State Tourism Program.
Libia informed that Spain is the second country that generates the most tourism for Guanajuato; last year more than 201,000 tourists arrived in Guanajuato from Spain, generating an economic impact of more than 475 million pesos.
The most anticipated event in the work tour for everything it represented, was the launch of our new international tourism brand simultaneously in Madrid, Mexico City and Leon, the Governor highlighted.
“This is historic, because it’s the first time it’s been done. And as we said, we arrive with open hearts, full of history, flavors, traditions, art, and that human warmth that distinguishes us. We bring a sincere and exciting invitation to explore the Roads of Guanajuato,” said Libia.
The Mayor of Purisima del Rincon said that they completed 18 business appointments, strengthened the relationship with UN Tourism, met with executives, and agreed to collaborate on activities and programs for the destination during 2026 in Jalpa de Canovas Pueblo Mágico and Best Tourism Village, among other agreements.
And also mentioned was the new religious tourism route between Silao, Guanajuato City, Dolores Hidalgo and San Miguel de Allende.
Four municipalities can now produce mezcal
In this edition of “ Connecting with the People” , the Governor commented that a few days ago the Decree was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, by which 4 more municipalities of Guanajuato, have received the Declaration of Denomination of Origin of Mezcal: Comonfort, Dolores Hidalgo, San Jose Iturbide and Tierra Blanca.
“This fills us with pride and we must congratulate the local authorities of those municipalities and the Secretary of Economy of the People’s Government, who did a great job so that the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property accepted this designation,” said the Governor.
