Destinations to visit this year’s end include 5 archaeological sites in Guanajuato, with new venues for example at Arroyo Seco in Victoria.

PLAZUELAS was the first archaeological site habilitated for public visits in Guanajuato 15 years ago. It was one of the most complete prehispanic cities in the South of Guanajuato. It was inhabited in the 600 to 900 A.D.
PERALTA, located some 70 kilometers from Plazuelas in Abasolo. It is one of the most important civic ceremonial centers in the region. It was inhabited in the 300 to 700 A.D.
CANADA DE LA VIRGEN, in San Miguel de Allende. It is the most visited archaeological site in Guanajuato. It is an ancient ceremonial center that includes in its planification the cosmic cycles to which the surrounding communities linked their lives. Its simmetry axis follows the path of the Sun in the sky.
EL COPORO, in Ocampo. It is located in the North limits of Mesoamerica. It is en important prehispanic site, inhabited from 500 to 900 AD. Its urban design is marked by a clear difference in spaces, with public and residential areas in its lower part and civic and ceremonial complexes on the hills and the top of the hill that gives its name to the site.
ARROYO SECO, in Victoria. It has one of the most important cave paintings concentrations in Mexico. It has 42 pictorial panels among rocky sceneries in two hills, the Zorra (Complex A) and the Tortuga (Complex B). These paintings were made during many centuries and depict activities of hunters and collectors up to the first years of the conquest.
Archaeological sites in Guanajuato only close on December 25th and January 1st. On any other day these sites are open Tuesday through Sunday 10 am to 18pm (Last visitors can go into the site at 16:00 or 17:00, depending on the site).
The cost is $39 pesos, and $12 pesos for under 12.
For your visit you should observe health protection protocols, including facemask and going through a sanitation station.
