The People’s Government, through the Secretary of Water and Environment, promotes actions that contribute to the care and conservation of nature

As part of the actions promoted for environmental conservation, the People’s Government through the Secretary of Water and Environment (SAMA) will commemorate in September the anniversary of three Natural Protected Areas (ANP):
- Neutla Dam
- Sierra de los Agustinos
- Metropolitan Park
From September 15th to 25th, the anniversary dates will be marked. Activities will be carried out in coordination with the Environmental and Territorial Planning Attorney’s Office (PAOT) and the municipalities where the Protected Natural Areas are located.
These activities will contribute to their care and protection, including:
- Reforestation
- Bird identification tour
- Virtual training in the use of the Google Earth application for natural resource management
- Talks on forest fire prevention
- Conference on the migratory phenomenon of the monarch butterfly
- Photographic exhibitions
- How to perform biological monitoring?
- Understanding the biodiversity of protected natural areas
The Neutla Dam Protected Natural Area and its Zone of Influence are located in the municipality of Comonfort. Its main feature and visual attraction is the wetlands, which has a capacity of 5 million cubic meters and covers an area of 500 hectares.
This area, which boasts a fosters 165 species of fauna, among them 9 amphibians, 19 reptiles, 22 mammals, and 115 birds, also provides a resting and feeding ground for both resident and migratory birds, making it a perfect spot for birdwatchers.
The Sierra de los Agustinos is located in Acambaro, Jerecuaro and Tarimoro; it contains the Agustinos Aquifer and represents an important site on the migratory route of the monarch butterfly, as these ecosystems provide the appropriate conditions for safe passage, feeding, and overnight stays.
This Protected Natural Area features oak forests, pine forests, and mixed oak-pine forests. It also boasts a diverse ecosystem that supports up to 291 species of wildlife, including 8 amphibians, 31 reptiles, 217 birds, and 35 mammals.
The Metropolitan Park, which is an important recreational and leisure area for the people of Leon, has an area of 337.63 hectares, is a habitat for important migratory birds, is part of the migratory route of the center of the country and includes the largest body of water in the municipality, which receives runoff from the streams La Patina, Calvillo, Los Castillos, La India, Ibarrilla, Ojo de Agua de los Reyes and Hondo.
The park is habitat for 18 species of waterfowl, and it is also home to 37 species of terrestrial birds, mammals, and amphibians, subject to special protection according to the Mexican official standard NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010.
The leadership and vision of Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, through the Secretary of Water and Environment, generates and consolidates actions that contribute to the care, protection, and conservation of the Protected Natural Areas of the State of Guanajuato.
