Smoking is the main cause of lung cancer, more than 40% of deaths caused by tobacco are due to lung cancer.

In Mexico, lung cancer ranks seventh among the most frequent diseases and the leading cause of death from cancer. Each year approximately 8,000 Mexicans die from this condition, according to data obtained from the Thoracic Tumor Clinic of the National Cancer Institute -INCan-.
It is estimated that more than 51,000 people die each year from diseases caused by smoking, which means that there are 135 daily deaths from this cause.
The Gto Health System reports that the main symptoms of lung cancer include:
- Persistent cough, chest pain, coughing up blood, shortness of breath, hoarseness, fatigue, weight loss, and blood in the sputum (mucus coughed up from the lungs)
The treatment for this disease depends on its detection and the type of cancer that is suffered. It can go from surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
In most cases the disease does not produce noticeable symptoms until the cancer is in very advanced stages. For this reason, one must be attentive to the first signs of the disease, especially if tobacco was consumed at some point in life, if the person was in constant contact with people who consumed it, and there is a family history of lung cancer.
