The “Guadalupe-Reyes” period is near and with it the return of a lot of migrants from USA, said Juan Hernandez, the State Secretary of Migrants and International Affairs.
Historical numbers
In his participation in the program “Cada Dia” on TV4, Hernandez said that, just as it happens with money orders sent from the USA to Mexico, they are waiting for historical numbers of migrants to return to Guanajuato for the season of December and January.
They plan to return
“Many of them couldn´t come to visit last year, and they haven’t been here for one year, one year and a half or even two years, in my latest work tour in three States of USA, many Guanajuatense paisanos told me: This year I am going to Guanajuato, I will go for Christmas, well, here we are gladly waiting for them”, said Hernandez.
State and Federal Authorities work together
The Secretary said that they are working with the Federal National Migration Institute with whom they are doing a joint effort to make sure fellow Mexicans who come to Guanajuato enjoy their stay in their hometowns.
Allowed to return
Hernandez said that some 100 thousand migrants return every year to Guanajuato, but that more are expected this year because after the Covid 19 pandemic and the restrictions imposed by the United States to prevent contagion at the border with Mexico, last November 8th the US lifted restrictions for international travelers on land, air and sea.
Paisanos can call Authorities
“We are ready to help our paisanos in any emergency they may have, they can call us to the INAMI or in Guanajuato they can call the Secretary of Migrant and International Affairs, we will have personnel on guard, so that they have a safe transit, because as they come back to visit they reactivate the economy with the resources they bring to Mexico”, said Hernandez.
When in Guanajuato, migrants may call:
- 473 735 01 50 (In Guanajuato)
- 800 215 44 41 (In all of Mexico)
- 1 800 957 28 11 (Long Distance to and from the United States)
