COFOCE promotes the creation of the platform that will serve creators from Guanajuato
Silao/Gto News
This year, artists and artisans from Guanajuato who carve a volcanic stone to produce –molcajetes- in Comonfort decided to make a move and entered the digital world, by creating the first Digital Village in Mexico hand in hand with COFOCE.
A benefit for all
“The idea is to put up a digital ecosystem with different organizations and government groups so that each and all of these organizations and organisms, add our expertise to help them sell, grow, bring benefits and sustainability for the families and the economy”, said Jorge Godinez, Coordinator of the Arts and Decoorations Sector at COFOCE.
It is a model of economic development for artisans who lack digital tools and fair trade as they sell their pieces, eliminating intermediaries and giving them access to international markets.
A space for the talent of Comonfort
The Digital Village is formed by 85 shops dedicated to the production of handicrafts in volcanic stone (molcajetes and other decorative crafts made of stone), generating 250 direct jobs.

They are selling!!!! Already!!!!
“We are really glad because the product was already launched in the sales platform online called NOVICA, a platform specialized in sales of handicrafts, it will make it posible for our molcajetes from Guanajuato to be sold and purchased anywhere in the world thanks to this platform and we also want to bring them into other marketplaces and we already have sales, the cash register has already rung, that is something that has made us really happy, that this work is creating a benefit for artisans of Comonfort. We want to create more digital villages because in Guanajuato we have a lot of talent, we have many arts and crafts expressions and are going to achieve it, this is the first Digital Village that is created in Guanajuato”, noted Jorge Godinez, the coordinator of COFOCE.
Fair profit for talent
Thanks to this project profits for the artisan goes from 200% to 300% more per piece (compared to the traditional way of operating) yielding fair profits to the effort talent and work of the Guanajuatense artisans.
