The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato sent a multidisciplinary brigade to help in the actions of help and rescue in Acapulco

Guanajuato/Gto News

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato, on the instructions of Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, sent a medical support brigade to Acapulco.

The brigade will join the actions implemented by the Public Health Emergency Operations Command (COE-SP) and the COSS in Guerrero, supporting the restoration of health services.

The Secretary of Health, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, gave the go-ahead to the brigades on Wednesday morning near the General Hospital of Leon.

Two State Mobile Medical Units were sent from Leon and will be there until October 11 of this year.

The brigades are made up of ten people including promoters, nurses, doctors, psychologists, epidemiologists and health inspectors,

The State Health Secretary reported that this support is being sent from Guanajuato due to the current situation in Acapulco, Guerrero caused by Hurricane John, which reached category 3 on September 23 and 24, 2024.

Cortes said that the medical personnel who go to provide support are also exposed to vulnerable conditions and therefore have the responsibility of taking care of themselves.

“The way Guanajuato can bring its heart closer to theirs so that theirs can beat well again is with a team like you, with dedicated people who know how to help people who are in this vulnerable condition to help them recover their minimum state of health,” he added.

“This time it is a special situation where people leave their homes and health units to go and care for people they don’t know and who are in very bad conditions, very sad conditions”, said Cortes.

“These are teams that have created and generated a great deal of resilience as health teams. This time there is only one person going for the first time, but they all have a great deal of experience and have the knowledge to set up a mobile medical unit in difficult conditions”, said Edwin Vargas, Director of Primary Care and Coverage Extension, who noted that this is a team that has participated in up to five contingencies previously outside Guanajuato.
