State Officials said that Guanajuato protects the environment and watches the effects of climate change and that it is one of the priorities of the State Government.
Actions against global warming
Guanajuato supports actions to reduce greenhouse gases and emissions that cause the gobal warming, said Officials.
The Government of Guanajuato through the Secretary of the Environment and Territorial Order -SMAOT-, in collaboration with the Center of Investigation and Economic Teaching –CIDE- and the University of Agriculture Sciences of Sweden –SLU- were participants in the Project called:
“Construction of capabilities for policies in climate change in the State of Guanajuato” through the international Future Fund of the Coalition Under2.
The winning Project was chosen to be financed and it has as its main goals:
- Identify actions with policies related to climate change in Guanajuato, with an emphasis in mitigation actions of CO2eq and black coal
- Train municipal governments in sending reports and communicate their policies related to climate change
- Design an online platform, improve strategies of collection and organization of data that are reported to offices of the Federal Government and to citizens as part of the 3rd Biennial Report of Mexico on climate change which is reported to the United Nations and the Established Contributions in Mexico.
Guarantee compliance
This Project will make it possibe to track actions of mitigation, that is, identify and count the actions enforced to guarantee the compliance of the Determined Contributions of Mexico, in compliance of goals for the expected reduction of emission of greenhouse gases and byproducts as stated in the Paris Agreement.
It will help strengthen the capabilities of municipal governments against the climate change in order to support those Municipalities with knowledge and capabilities for the attention of climate issues and to strengthen the coordination between the State and Municipalities.
Enpower States and Regions
The Future Fund has as its goal to empower the States and regions with developing economies that are members of the Under2 Coalition to accelerate their transition to a low coal economy abiding to the Paris Agreement and the MOU Under2.
Since this year Guanajuato is a member of the Coalition Under2.
