The National Olympics returns to Guanajuato after 10 years with four sports disciplines: diving, swimming, artistic swimming and fronton, reported Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, during the Program Connecting with the People.

“It is the greatest amateur competition in Mexico and is considered a breeding ground for athletes par excellence; in this competition, girls, boys and young athletes, between 9 and 23 years old, are involved every year, in all its stages, in 51 sports. And being in the final stretch of the Olympics is quite an achievement,” explained the State Governor.

The National Olympics, organized by the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE), are celebrating their 30th anniversary, and Guanajuato has remained in the Top Ten for several years, even achieving a fourth place in the medal count.

“Hosting the event is a recognition of the State, not only for its organization capacity in sporting events, but also for its facilities; we have top-level sports infrastructure. It is a recognition of the teamwork and the trust that CONADE places in us. Furthermore, it is a tourism boost for our State with a significant economic impact,” explained Yendi Cortinas Lopez, Director of the Guanajuato State Sports Commission (CODE), who was with the Governor.

The Diving Championships will take place in Leon, at the Leon 1 Aquatic Center, from April 17 to 26, with the participation of 338 divers.

The Swimming venue will be located in the same sports space from May 4 to 10, with the participation of 1,201 athletes.

The Artistic Swimming competition will be held in Guanajuato City, at the Aquatic Center of the CODE 1 Sports Complex, with the participation of 294 athletes, from May 24 to 29; and the Fronton competition will be located in the city of Irapuato, with the participation of 734 athletes, at the Mario Vazquez Rana Sports Unit, from May 12 to 29.

The National Olympics is also held in Puebla (the main venue), Nayarit, Yucatan, and Tlaxcala. Guanajuato has hosted or co-hosted the Games four times: in 2002, 2012, 2016, and now in 2026, an edition in which it expects to receive a total of 2,567 athletes from all over Mexico.

“The National Olympics are a great responsibility, because they represent the dreams and hopes of the girls and boys; they are the springboard to reach the Olympic Games,” said Arantxa Elizabeth Chavez Munoz, a diving coach, medalist in the Central American and Caribbean Games; and with participation in the Shenzen 2011 World University Games in China and in the London 2012 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

“I’m very happy with what I’ve achieved. I’m very grateful to my coach, and I can say that reaching the national games is a great accomplishment. I really enjoy competitions, and I know that if I enjoy them, I do much better and get better results,” said Ana Paula Verdad Flores, a diver in the children’s category and medalist at the 2025 National Olympics.
