The Cristo Rey Sanctuary on top of El Cubilete hill in Silao, Guanajuato, the second most visited religious place in Mexico, -only after the Guadalupe Basilica- received the tourist brand “Guanajuato Lives Great Sories”.
Creating identity
Juan Jose Alvarez Brunel, the Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato, with Silverio Chavez Ayala, the dean of the National Devotional Sanctuary; and Joselyn Antonieta Aguirre Vargas, the Director of Economic Development and Tourism of Silao, set up the distinctive “G” of the brand, an element that is working to position the destination, create an identity, as well as strengthen and reactivate the tourism activity.

“Guanajuato is a destination that offers different attractions and experiences, that is why we evolve to include more sectors: culture, adventure, romance, business, gastronomy, tradition, religion; that is the reason of the colors in the “G”, the great number of emotions you can experience at your own rythm and preferance in your trip”, said Alvarez Brunel.
Working to protect visitors
The Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato with service providers of the sector and Authorities of Municipalities have worked with training on good tourism practices to protect visitors, amid the Covid 19 pandemic, and earn the Healthy Guanajuato Badge.
Tourism is one of the main economic activities and it provides an important amount of jobs to the economy of Guanajuato.
