The Guanajuato Health Secretary called on the population to reinforce, from home, the prevention measures against measles.

Currently, Guanajuato has no active cases of the disease; however, it maintains close active epidemiological surveillance.

Among the basic actions that we all must adopt are frequent hand washing with soap and water, cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces, as well as adequate ventilation of spaces to reduce the concentration of viral particles.

The Secretary of Health, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, reported that a suspected imported case was registered in Leon, corresponding to a 28-year-old man from Mexico City.

The vaccination blockade and sanitary cordon actions were promptly established by the staff of Health Jurisdiction VII, applying the corresponding protocols to prevent transmission.

The case study was sent to the Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference (InDRE), following the epidemiological surveillance guidelines; however, the patient is 100% recovered.

According to the Daily Report of the Special Epidemiological Surveillance System, Guanajuato ranks second to last nationally with the lowest number of cases, registering an incidence rate of 0.2 per 100,000 inhabitants.

The head of the Health Secretary highlighted that one of the most effective strategies in the 46 municipalities of the State has been the reinforcement of vaccination since April of 2025, when an alert was issued internationally regarding the possible appearance of probable cases.

Since then, the eight Health Jurisdictions of Guanajuato have implemented intensive campaigns at the Community Health Centers, administering more than 350,000 doses from January of last year to date. Currently, there is a stock of over 250,000 doses available.

During 2026, the People’s Government, led by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, intensified vaccination in girls and boys aged 6, 18 months and 6 years old.

The Secretary of Health reiterates that vaccination is the most effective measure to prevent measles and urges the public to visit their nearest Health Center to review and complete vaccination schedules free of charge.
