The Governor of the People presided over the swearing-in ceremony of the National Association of Mexican World Heritage Cities AC, as part of the 46th edition of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR).

This act reaffirms the collective commitment of heritage cities to the preservation of their historical, cultural, and urban legacy, but also to a contemporary vision that recognizes heritage as an engine of economic, social, and tourism development for their people.

Mayor of Guanajuato City, Samantha Smith Gutierrez, assumed the presidency, marking a new chapter of leadership for the country’s heritage cities.
“The presence of Guanajuato in this space, for the People’s Government, is the reaffirmation of a deep conviction: caring for the past is not a passive act, it is an active responsibility for the present well-being and the future of our people,” said the Governor.

Worldwide, the UNESCO World Heritage List includes more than 1,200 sites of outstanding value, spread across nearly 170 countries.
Mexico, with 35 inscribed sites, ranks among the seven nations with the most heritage sites in the world and is first in the Americas. This fact is not only a source of pride: it is a testament to Mexico’s commitment to preserving its memory, its identity, and its cultural diversity, noted Libia Dennise.

“We are the only State in Mexico with two cities recognized as World Heritage Sites: our proud State Capital, Guanajuato, and the ever-surprising San Miguel de Allende. These two urban gems have been, and will continue to be, beacons of identity, history, culture, and, above all, of the human spirit that has known how to overcome adversity, be reborn, and build community throughout time,” said Libia.
The Governor noted that the presidency of this association has been assumed by the mayor of Guanajuato City, Samantha Smith Gutierrez, beginning a new chapter of leadership for heritage cities. “You have the full support of the State Government and my own to achieve great results.”
