The Secretary of Tourism and Identity of Guanajuato, led by Lupita Robles Leon, held the Second Session of the State Council of Magic Towns, a space for dialogue, planning and coordination between the three levels of government, the academic sector and citizen representatives of the six Magic Towns of Guanajuato:

  • Dolores Hidalgo, Yuriria, Comonfort, Purisima del Rincon, San Luis de la Paz and Salvatierra

During the session, Guanajuato was recognized as a national example for its tourism management model by Marte Luis Molina Orozco, Director General of Social Destination Management at the Federal Secretary of Tourism, and recognized the coordinated work between the government, communities, and academia to consolidate sustainable destinations with a distinctive identity.

Molina also noted the strong acceptance of the national promotional campaign by Sectur, which will be used to strengthen the image of Guanajuato’s Magic Towns and showcase their cultural, natural, and human richness in the country’s main tourist markets.

“For our Governor, Magic Towns are more than destinations: they are communities that transform the lives of their people through tourism. From the New Beginning Government, we continue to promote their comprehensive development with concrete actions in infrastructure, promotion, professionalization, and sustainability,” said Lupita Robles Leon, head of the Secretary of Tourism and Identity.

Robles Leon presented the progress and strategic projects that strengthen each destination’s tourism potential:

  • In Dolores Hidalgo, the Museum of History, Arts, and Crafts is being promoted, a living space honoring local creativity
  • In Yuriria, the “Water and Stone” Interpretive Corridor and the “Blood Lagoon” program are consolidating as national benchmarks in ecotourism
  • In Comonfort, the first phase of the Cerro de los Remedios Visitor Center is progressing, showcasing its archaeological heritage
  • In Salvatierra, the Batanes Ecotourism Park promotes sustainable development
  • In Purisima del Rincon in Jalpa de Canovas, connectivity, training, and promotional projects are being strengthened to further consolidate their cultural identity and focus on community-based and experiential tourism
  • In San Luis de la Paz, Authorities strengthen connectivity, training, and promotional projects to consolidate the cultural identity and to focus on the vocation of community-based and experiential tourism

The secretary reported that Guanajuato had received more than 15.3 million visitors through August, representing a 7% increase compared to the previous year.

“We are working hard to relaunch our Magic Towns with all our determination. We have met our assessments and will continue working with the vision set for us by our Governor Libia Dennise: working as a team, because working together we are unstoppable,” said Lupita Robles Leon.
