Intentional homicides in Guanajuato decreased by 40.6% compared to September 2024. Extortion, femicide, home robbery, pedestrian robbery, vehicle theft, business robbery, and kidnapping continue to decline

The decrease in the crime rates reflects the joint work of Federal, State and Municipal Authorities

The reinforcement of security in Guanajuato, with the participation of Federal, State and Municipal institutions, was reflected in a significant reduction in high-impact crimes at the end of August, according to official figures from the Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System (SESNSP). 

The numbers in August:

  • In intentional homicide, 173 victims were recorded in August
  • Equivalent to a daily average of 5.6 cases
  • The figure represents a 40.61% reduction compared to September 2024
  • A 55.91% reduction compared to February 2025
  • February has been the highest rate month in intentional homicide in 2025

Other crimes also showed significant reductions:

  • There were 79 extortion cases
  • 12.2% decrease compared to the same month in 2024
  • Femicide cases were recorded with three in August and ten in all 2025
  • Representing a 16.67% decrease compared to 2024
  • In home burglaries, 253 cases were reported in August
  • A 7.3% decrease compared to the same month in 2024
  • A 10% decrease in the January-August total
  • There were 38 cases of robbery against pedestrians in August
  • A 25.5% decrease compared to the same month last year
  • A 12.1% decrease for the year
  • Vehicle theft totaled 268 cases
  • A 20.9% decrease compared to August 2024
  • In the January-August cumulative period, the decrease is 10.1%
  • Business theft cases were recorded at 359
  • Representing a 9.6% decrease compared to the same month last year
  • One kidnapping case was opened in August and six so far this year
  • Representing a 14.3% decrease compared to 2024

These numbers are the result of a coordinated effort of:

  • The Secretary of Security and Peace, the State Public Security Forces, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR), the Secretary of National Defense (SEDENA), the National Guard (GN), the federal Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), and Municipal police forces, under the state strategy CONFIA (Operational Coordination of the New Anti-Crime Intelligence Force). 

The Secretary of Security and Peace reaffirmed that security is built through the collaboration of all; it also insisted the invitation to report any criminal act anonymously to 089.
