In the 215th anniversary of the beginning of Mexico’s Independence, the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, led the traditional Civic-Military Parade in Dolores Hidalgo, the Cradle of National Freedom.

“215 years ago, freedom resounded on this land, with the voices of Hidalgo, Allende, Aldama, Abasolo, and so many other heroes and heroines. The people of Dolores rose up years after independence was achieved; celebrations began in Dolores Hidalgo, but in 1827, a parade was held to commemorate Mexican freedom,” said Dolores Hidalgo historian Rocio Corona Azanza.

For the first time in 215 years as a free and sovereign State, a female Governor led the national holidays in Guanajuato.

To commemorate the anniversary of the struggle that gave us our homeland, the Governor of Guanajuato walked from the Flag Monument to the downtown area, next to the Cathedral, accompanying the start of the parade that brought together thousands of families, students, authorities, and security forces.

The parade featured 2,363 people divided into contingents from more than 40 education institutions in the municipality, along with escorts, marching bands, and students. Also participating were members of the Mexican Army, National Guard, Public Security, Civil Protection, Firefighters, Red Cross, charro groups, and civil associations, demonstrating Guanajuato’s unity around the legacy of freedom inherited by the nation’s heroes.

The civic-military ceremony in Dolores Hidalgo evoked the power of the call of 1810, recalling that Independence is a symbol of unity, justice, and courage.

During the parade, the Governor was accompanied by the Mayor of Dolores Hidalgo, Adrian Hernandez Alejandri and other civil and military Authorities and  guanajuatenses and visitors.
