The Virtual University of the State of Guanajuato (UVEG) held the conference “18 Years of Education in an Interconnected World” during its second day of activities commemorating its 18th anniversary. This was a space for dialogue that brought together representatives from academia and international industry with the goal of strengthening the development of highly competitive talent, driving innovation, and fostering effective connections between education and the productive sector.

UVEG Rector Ricardo Narvaez Martinez emphasized the call by State Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo to innovate for the benefit of society.

“Working for people isn’t just about doing what we do every day, but about doing innovative things, reaching out to companies, and demonstrating that what we teach is relevant and works for them. Education can’t move in a different direction than industry; it must be an ecosystem where everyone contributes and wins,” said Narvaez.

The rector also highlighted the achievements of more than 639 graduates trained in various disciplines who now work for world-class companies, consolidating a bond that transcends academics and strengthens the State’s competitiveness.

Itzel Casillas Casillas, Director of Outreach and Internationalization at UVEG, highlighted the importance of building bridges between the university and companies.

“Today is a clear example of how, when education and industry take their fundamental role and combine them, they can generate valuable strategies for society. We have gained significant feedback to build an education model based on the real needs of the market,” said Casillas.

The event featured the participation of Carlos Jacobo Martinez Torres, Manager of Attraction, Training, and Development at Pirelli Tires, who served as a guest speaker. From a business perspective, he highlighted UVEG’s relevance as an ally in talent development.

“UVEG has committed to strengthen skills that are a priority in the global industry: languages, agility, flexibility, and proactive thinking. The viability of the talent UVEG cultivates is evident: it allows young people to work and study at the same time, and enter the industry with the ability to propose and solve problems,” said Martinez.

He also highlighted success stories and preparation at UVEG.

“We’ve seen students who started as interns at Pirelli, operating a machine, and, thanks to their training at UVEG, now hold administrative and leadership positions. This confirms that quality virtual education can transform life trajectories and respond to what the industry truly needs,” said Carlos Jacobo.

UVEG celebrates its 18th anniversary with the conviction that education is the driving force behind talent, competitiveness, and sustainable development in Guanajuato, Mexico, and the world.
