The Innovation Institute, in collaboration with INEGI, held the meeting “Deciding with Data,” a space designed to demonstrate how information from the 2024 Economic Census can become a strategic tool for decision-making and identifying business opportunities.

The event was attended by entrepreneurs, students, researchers, companies, and business organizations interested in harnessing the value of data to drive economic development and innovation through interactive workshops and specialized project consulting.

Juan Antonio Reus Montano, Director General of the Innovation Institute, said that the relationship with INEGI stands out for being a living, real, and authentic collaboration.

“Today, it’s not just about talking about data; it’s about talking of what people can do with data and information, because the chain established by economist Milton Friedman says the following: we must move from data to information, from information to knowledge, and from knowledge to decision-making,” said Reus.

The Official added that evidence-based decision-making is not a buzzword; it’s at the heart of the Institute’s mission, and thanks to leaders like INEGI, we have a very recent and comprehensive picture of Guanajuato’s development.

“In recent years, we’ve grown from 179,000 to nearly 270,000 businesses and companies. Behind each of those 270,000 businesses is a story of hard work, families, and dreams. And together, those businesses employ more than 1.4 million people,” said Reus.

The Director added that the census confirms that the engine of the economy lies in microenterprises. Ninety-five percent of businesses in Guanajuato are microenterprises, and they are the lifeblood of our State and the heart of families.

Finally, said Reus, “The picture also reveals something crucial: 0.2% of large companies generate almost a third of employment. This gives us a clear path: we must continue supporting microenterprises so they can grow and strengthen, while paving the way for large companies to continue investing in our people.”

“In Guanajuato, we found the best ally. With this partnership, we will ensure that data is used to create business intelligence, thereby directly benefiting the people of Guanajuato,” said Sergio Rolando Gonzalez Arreola, Regional Director of North Central areas who insisted that what is important is not the information, but what entrepreneurs do with the data.

Through these workshops and talks, attendees learned how to leverage the data provided by INEGI for their current and future ventures.
