The State Civil Protection Council is on alert to address potential risks arising from the ongoing rainfall in Guanajuato.

Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, while leading the First Extraordinary Session of the State Civil Protection Council in 2025, called on “everyone to act preventively and decisively” in areas where there are risks, as the rains will continue throughout this month.

Libia emphasized that the various agencies and institutions that make up the council are already working to address any emergency situation, besides informing the public about various prevention measures, especially in those communities or neighborhoods where there is a greater risk of flooding due to rain.

And where there are risks, establishing temporary shelters to protect the population is an ongoing effort, with efforts coordinated by the State Government Secretary, said Libia Dennise, who also noted the involvement of SEDENA and the National Guard, among other Federal agencies, in safeguarding the safety of Guanajuatenses.

The State Civil Protection Council is an inter-institutional coordination body that brings together authorities from the three levels of government, emergency services, the armed forces, representatives of civil society, academic institutions, and productive sectors. Its mission is to prevent, mitigate, and address risks arising from natural phenomena, ensuring a rapid and organized response to an emergency.

And as stated in this extraordinary session, temporary shelters should already be identified, as well as the tasks that each of the participating agencies must perform for the safety of civilians, especially in municipalities that currently present a greater risk due to rising water levels in dams, rivers, and streams.

CONAGUA maintains constant monitoring, and extraction operations are carried out gradually and in a controlled manner, prioritizing the safety of Guanajuatense families and the protection of infrastructure.

Collaboration between municipalities, State and Federal agencies, and citizen participation are essential to address the challenges posed by the rainy season.

Participating in this session were representatives of the People’s Government; as well as representatives of SEDENA, CONAGUA, the Attorney General’s Office, Firefighters, the Red Cross, among other federal agencies.
