Authorities from Guanajuato and San Luis Potosi held the first regional working group on public security to follow up on the agreement by the two states, which establishes various intelligence actions and interstate operational work.

Following the agreement signed on August 11 by the Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, and the Governor of San Luis Potosi, Jose Ricardo Gallardo, which highlights information exchange, joint operations, and the addressing of common problems such as highway robbery, authorities from both states held a working reunion to formalize this alliance.

The reunion was attended by the Secretary of Government, Jorge Daniel Jimenez Lona, and the Secretary of Security, Juan Mauro Gonzalez Martinez, and the Attorney General of the State, Gerardo Vazquez Alatriste, along with other state officials, to strengthen collaboration agreements with their counterparts in San Luis Potosí.

“This agreement will undoubtedly strengthen the issue of security. Guanajuato is the fifth-largest economy in Mexico; we are also a State that shares not only history but also several vocations with San Luis Potosi, such as the automotive sector, the agroindustry, and the highway network, which gives us common ground to work together. We see great alliances and opportunities,” said Jorge Jimenez Lona.

The Secretary of Government noted that Mexico’s President has recognized a historic 60.7% reduction in homicides in Guanajuato, adding, “There is still a long way to go. We are on the right path. Governor Libia has committed to work regionally.”

“We are fighting impunity; we are working on overflight operations and increasing surveillance on highways and roads. Our shared goal is to ensure that no one who commits a crime can evade justice by moving to another state. We want to ensure that when an operation is necessary, it is carried out jointly and always within the framework of the law,” said the Secretary of Government.

The Secretary of Security and Peace of the State of Guanajuato, Juan Mauro Gonzalez Martinez, said that “the foundation of the administration led by both Gallardo and teacher Libia is based on coordination, but more importantly, on trust,” he noted.

The official emphasized that this joint effort has already yielded positive results, thanks in part to the support of the Federation.

Juan Mauro Gonzelez emphasized that the goal is to strengthen intelligence and investigative capabilities, beyond operational matters. Both states agreed to hold a meeting in Guanajuato to follow up on the agreement.
