Assemblies of the “Voices for Equality and Against Violence” begin. Federation, State and Municipalities join forces in support of women

Guanajuato/Gto News

As part of a coordinated effort of the three levels of government, the women’s assemblies “Voices for Equality and Against Violence” began, providing listening spaces for gathering diverse proposals, diagnoses, and experiences of women who promote their rights.

The first assembly was held in the municipality of Romita, where more than 250 women attended and shared experiences and contributions that will help us move toward a more fair society for all women.

Women expressed their feelings regarding security and relationships in the family.

Participants made concrete proposals such as:

  • Greater awareness of the types of violence they may experience, allowing them to identify them and encouraging complaints, as well as promoting their rights at all stages of life, free legal assistance, foster support networks, educate without gender stereotypes, and also involve men in new masculinities. They also suggested promoting economic independence through training courses and participation in representative positions, and support for young women who complete their studies to find employment

The Secretary of Women of Guanajuato, Itzel Balderas, emphasized that these events are a priority for Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo because they allow women to build on their experiences and specific needs.

“These assemblies, held in coordination with the Federation and municipalities like Romita, are in addition to the work already being done by the People’s Government to serve women living in vulnerable situations or who, unfortunately, experience violence,” Itzel Balderas emphasized.

Grace Saucedo Hernandez, president of the Municipal DIF, noted that Romita is working to eradicate violence and promote gender equality.

Participating to make this event possible were the Women’s Guidance Coordination of the Federal Women’s Secretary, led by Lorena Leyva Diaz, who compiled the proposals and agreements reached among the participants.

The assemblies continued during the weekend in Silao and San Felipe. In total, 32 assemblies will be held in Guanajuato during the months of July, August, September, October, and November.
