UNAM to train tourism sector of Guanajuato

SECTURI and the UNAM Guanajuato Foundation sign an agreement for academic training, technical assistance, and research in tourism

For the benefit of the tourism sector, the Secretary of Tourism and Identity of the State of Guanajuato (SECTURI) and the National Autonomous University of Mexico Foundation, Guanajuato Chapter (FUNAM) seek to consolidate academic training, technical assistance, dissemination, promotion, exchange, and research activities for the benefit of the State’s tourism sector.

Secretary Maria Guadalupe Robles emphasized the importance of ensuring that this agreement goes beyond paperwork. “We want a better Guanajuato through substantial change in the community, across all 46 municipalities”.

Robles emphasized that the initiative is aligned with the vision of the Government of the People, promoted by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, which puts people at the center of its actions.

Javier Aguirre Vizzuet, president of FUNAM Guanajuato Chapter, said that “this agreement is of vital importance due to the specific activities. It is a very ambitious program that we are developing.” 

The agreement establishes the creation of a technical collaboration program between SECTURI and FUNAM, including academic training with the organization of courses, workshops, seminars, and diplomas focused on tourism and identity.

This will also be complemented by technical assistance, such as the design and evaluation of continuing education plans with the participation of researchers from the UNAM campuses in León and San Miguel de Allende.

The program will also include dissemination and promotion of teaching materials and joint campaigns, as well as academic and professional exchanges with the development of social service programs and internships for students.

Along with generating joint research for the creation of studies linked to the tourism and social development of Guanajuato.

The presence of UNAM in Guanajuato has a considerable weight. The Leon Campus, with more than 60 hectares, was the first established outside of Mexico City and offers a solid education offer focused on areas such as optometry, dentistry, physical therapy, tourism, sustainable development, and agrobusiness. 

To date, more than 2,000 students are part of the UNAM university community in Guanajuato, supported by more than 300 faculty members, including 56 researchers from the National Research System. The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), as a world-class education institution has more than 388,000 students, an international presence in 10 countries, and an enrollment that has trained four Nobel Prize winners.
