SECTURI strengthens Guanajuatense wine

The State is working to consolidate the Valley of the Independence as a driving force of promotion of gastro-wine tourism

With the aim of strengthening the role of Guanajuatense wine within the tourism strategy in the State of the Government of the People and consolidating the Valley of the Independence as a national reference in wine tourism, a key meeting was held this weekend between the Secretary of Tourism and Identity of Guanajuato, led by Secretary Maria Guadalupe Robles Leon, and winegrowers who are members of the Guanajuato Grape and Wine Association, chaired by Ramon Velez Gutierrez.

This strategic meeting was held in the heart of San Miguel de Allende. The key elements of the Guanajuato State Wine Tourism Plan 2025-2030 were presented. Joint work lines were outlined with hotels, consumer centers, artisans, and traditional chefs and the commitment to the wine as a differentiating factor for the Marca Gto was reaffirmed.

The importance of teamwork to promote wine tourism as one of the State’s most relevant tourism products was highlighted, with clear short-term goals and an open vision for new opportunities.

Secretary Lupita Robles expressed her commitment to the sector: “What I want to tell you, and this is a direct message of the Governor, is that we will not leave you alone. We will work together, with a clear and coordinated strategic plan.”

Robles shared how the Guanajuatense wine has been a key focus on recent international tours. “We went to Houston, and the first topic the governor brought up was, ‘How do bring here wine from Guanajuato?’ I loved that. It was also a key topic in the meetings in Japan,” she added.

It was also announced that the secretary was appointed as the link between the People’s Government and the wine sector. “I have just been appointed as the State Government’s communication channel with the wine sector. I’m not going to let you go; for me, wine will be a differentiating factor in this administration,” Robles Leon said. 

During the event, the federal outreach plan for the Wine Tourism-Romance segment was also shared. Institutional support for the grape harvest season, press conferences, and promotional campaigns to highlight the experiences offered by Guanajuato wines were also discussed. Collaboration agreements were reaffirmed, and the possibility of incorporating specialists in developing wine tourism experiences was raised.

Guanajuato reaffirms its position as an international success story in creating comprehensive wine-related tourism experiences, and this meeting marks the beginning of a new phase of coordinated work to ensure that the Valley of the Independence becomes an increasingly prominent player in the country’s wine and tourism scene.
