From 1991 until March 2020, 19,800 million dollars have been invested in the auto-industry, which means 149 thousand jobs

The auto-industry is the main pillar of development in Guanajuato, that is why it is satisfying that the sector goes ahead in its production lines, said the Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo.
Well watched reactivation
The sector has been reactivated taking care of the health of its employees and watching the health protective measures against the pandemic of Covid 19, and already working at full steam, noted the State Governor.
Rodriguez Vallejo noted that the auto industry represents 20% of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product).
The Governor recalled that last May 18th this industrial sector restarted operations to supply the US market, after an agreement reached by the governments of Mexico, USA and Canada.
Working hard
After the reopening, in the last weeks in Guanajuato there has been an increase in plants that are making strong the Guanajuato auto-industry sector, one that is considered the most dynamic in Latin America.
“We are working in increasing the Stant plant in San Miguel de Allende, where they are investing 15 million dollars, and Toyota announced 170 million dollars to reach the top of production of the Tacoma truck by 130 thousand units a year”, said the Governor.
In the past days, said the Governor, we visited the company Nucor, a supplier of Steel for General Motors.
Production by the seconds
“We also were at General Motors, a company that since 25 years ago is working at its plant in Silao, where they produce a new Silverado or GMC Sierra truck each 58 seconds and also we supervised the production at the autoparts company American Axle.
The Mazda Plant in Salamanca is also at an important rythm of production. The monthly amount of reported production in September was of 15,188 vehicles, an amount that is more than four times the production of the same month last year when they produced 3,644 units.
In many municipalities
The auto industry also has presence in 23 other municipalities like in Apaseo El Grande, Celaya, Comonfort, Cortazar, Irapuato, Leon, Salamanca, San Francisco del Rincon and Silao; besides Abasolo, Acambaro, Dolores Hidalgo, Jerecuaro, Juventino Rosas, Ocampo, Pueblo Nuevo, Romita, San Diego de la Union, San Felipe, San Jose Iturbide, San Miguel de Allende, Valle de Santiago and Villagran.

Exports by the numbers
The exports in this industry represent 78 per cent of the total in exports from Guanajuato.
Of the total of assembled vehicles exported, 91% went to the United States; 2.2% went to Canada; 2 per cent to Colombia and 1.4% to Germany.
It is expected that by 2021, $23 thousand million dollars will be registered in exportation of automobiles.
More than 220 thousand direct and indirect jobs will be generated in this sector and more than one million 408 thousand vehicles will be produced next year.
