The Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, and the President of Mexico, signed a historic agreement for more than 6,400 million pesos to modernize the irrigation systems of the Guanajuato farmlands.

“If as Governor I have to come to an event of the nation’s servants with the President, to sign a water agreement that Guanajuato so badly needs, I will do it. I did not come for applause, I came to give results to my people,” said the Governor.

Within the framework of the Priority Wellbeing Programs, this agreement was signed, for which the head of the National Water Commission (CONAGUA), Efrain Morales Lopez, and the President of Irrigation District 011, Agustin Robles Montenegro, also signed.

The Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, said that in Guanajuato we know how to recognize joint work, and we work as a team because we know that for Mexico and Guanajuato to do well, we need to work together, in a coordinated manner.

“Today we have had a very productive work tour of our state, where the collaboration to make Guanajuato better has been evident,” said Libia Dennise.

The Governor said that “these are times of unity and teamwork. Madam President, here you have a Governor who is an all-rounder for Guanajuato. Let us build together the best future for Mexico and for our State.”

This agreement, which is part of the National Agreement for the Human Right to Water and Sustainability, was signed thanks to the efforts of the Government of the People and the producers of Guanajuato with the Federation, noted the Director of CONAGUA.

For the modernization of the farmlands in Guanajuato, an investment of just over 6.4 billion pesos will be made during the six-year term, with contributions from the Federation, the State and producers. This year the investment will be 600 million pesos, said the Director.

The Official added that more than 10,200 hectares of the Guanajuato countryside will be intervened, benefiting more than 25,000 producers and their families. In addition, more than 120 million cubic meters of water will be recovered.

For the construction of the aqueduct from the Solis dam to Leon, which will be distributed across 5 municipalities: Celaya, Salamanca, Irapuato, Silao and León; the investment is approximately 15 billion pesos.

Half of the funds are provided by the Federal Government and the rest by the State Government and municipalities. The work begins this year and is expected to be completed in 2028.

CONAGUA is working together with municipal presidents and State Authorities to identify the necessary works, especially in terms of drinking water, and also those that will serve to prevent flooding, said the Director of CONAGUA.

The President of Mexico, thanked the producers who make up the modules of Irrigation District 011 for signing this agreement.

“In Guanajuato, the work you have been doing to modernize agricultural irrigation and bring water to the different municipalities that require water has been exemplary,” said the President.

The President commented that for the Mexico-Queretaro-Irapuato passenger train project, work is planned to begin next July.

Previously, the Governor of the People participated in the inauguration of the Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCC) in Salamanca. The project proposed by the Federal Electricity Commission aims to satisfy the growing demand for electric energy in the Bajio region.

“The event that brings us together is, without a doubt, an example of how, through technology and advances, we can see how the processes in the production of energy in our country are improved”, said the Governor of Guanajuato.

“This, which is the most modern and efficient plant in this Country, shows us that we can make great progress, that Mexico is a great country and that if we are united in strategic projects, there is nothing that can stop the spirit and strength, the capacity and talent of Mexicans,” said Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo.

The CCC began operations on February 14. It has the capacity to generate 927.10 megawatts (MW), enough to benefit approximately 1.9 million inhabitants, equivalent to more than 540 thousand homes.
