In a follow-up to the Comprehensive Strategy for the Attention and Prevention of Gender Violence, the Secretary of Security and Peace, in collaboration with the Institute for Women (IMUG) of Guanajuato, began the initial training process for the new members of the Specialized Police Units in Gender in Guanajuato.
This effort responds to the People’s Government’s commitment to carry out the actions derived from the Gender Violence Alert against Women (AVGM) and, in this way, strengthen the response of security forces to these types of cases to provide care with a human rights perspective.
As part of this process, the first training sessions were held in two locations:
- In Leon with 62 members of the specialized police units from San Felipe, Ocampo, Purisima del Rincon, San Francisco del Rincon and Leon received training focused on four topics:
- The identification of gender roles and stereotypes, the sex-gender system and gender perspective
- Attention to and prevention of violence against women
- Human rights and victims’ rights
- The correct application of the National Protocol for Police Action in cases of violence against women and femicide
- In Guanajuato City at the Municipal Police Academy with 29 police officers from Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, San Diego de la Union, Dolores Hidalgo, Romita, Silao and Manuel Doblado
The goal is to strengthen their performance in risk situations and consolidating the specialization of security forces in this area.
This initial training program lasts eight hours and will continue throughout February to cover the whole State. Subsequently, specialized training will be implemented for the 46 municipalities, with priority attention to the 17 where the Gender Alert was declared.
In this way, the goal is that all police units specialized in the matter have tools to effectively assist women in situations of violence and thus contribute to the eradication of this problem in Guanajuato.
