Guanajuato strengthens its leadership with two denominations of origin for mezcal and tequila

In a historic event, 14 women mezcal producers from Purisima del Rincon, San Felipe, Leon, San Luis de la Paz, Manuel Doblado, Cueramaro and San Jose Iturbide, assumed their post as part of the Association of Women of Mezcal and Agave, Guanajuato chapter.
This movement, which began in 2021 with four producers and grew to include 24 women involved in the entire spirits production chain, reaffirms the State’s commitment to inclusion, sustainability and the promotion of its cultural treasures.
The Government of the People recognized the work of the women who, through tourism, promote the creation of opportunities and jobs for the prosperity of Guanajuatense families.
Lorena Lara Fernandez, president of the Guanajuato chapter, noted that the association seeks to promote, strengthen and develop projects for women from Guanajuato with the support among other of the Secretary of Tourism and Identity, led by Lupita Robles Leon.
Yolanda Ruiz, national president of Mujeres del Mezcal y del Maguey, swore in the new members and emphasized that this network is a platform that empowers families and communities, since more than two decades ago, initiatives like this one faced skepticism.
Today, with the collaboration of female mezcal masters from all over Mexico, Guanajuato is consolidating itself as a symbol of female empowerment in the sector, promoting gender equality in the industry with responsible practices by complying with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 production standards, focused on reducing CO2 emissions, eliminating agrochemicals and sustainable reproduction of agave.
The upcoming launch of an exclusive store for feminine products, an online app, and strategies to promote spirits abroad were announced, since the State has two designations of origin, mezcal and tequila, reaffirming its role as a leader in the production of high-quality spirits.
