The Guanajuato Health Secretary reported that all Health Centers in the 46 municipalities have specific care protocols in a safe space to care for and process cases of Guanajuatenses in situations of violence.

During the launch of the campaign in Guanajuato “Zero Violence against Women”, the Guanajuato International Film Festival -GIFF- with actress Ana Claudia Talancon; Ligia Arce Padilla, head of the Gto Health System, said that there are more than 630 medical units that provide this service including Health Centers, now known as UMAPS, CAISES and even second level of care such as that offered in General Hospitals.

However, this attention is provided while work is being done to continue training health personnel to provide a more timely service, including security guards and maintenance personnel.

Arce noted that it has been 8 years since they launch of a campaign to address violence each year and on this occasion a voice is given to an opinion leader such as Ana Claudia Talancon who brings a message of hope for Guanajuatenses.

“These medical units range from health centers located in a community to hospitals like the General Hospital in Leon, we do many prevention activities apart from the Mental Health Services Network”, said the Secretary of Health.

Arce Padilla pointed out that in Guanajuato the Health System has very clear objectives for violence prevention and one of them is precisely what this annual campaign is doing.

“That women really know how they should address an emergency situation, we cannot work alone, we always work in alliances,” said Arce Padilla. This alliance work allows each case of violence to be channeled to the relevant instance and define risks.

There is even support for men victims of violence throughout the state.

One in three women has suffered violence, so there is still a lot of work to be done, according to data from the World Health Organization.

Given this panorama, Arce Padilla added that the Health System has more than 400 mental health professionals under the zero rejection policy.

Ana Claudia Talancon explained how the seventh art is important in raising awareness of the diverse realities that women face in real life.

“The role that cinema plays in denouncing violence against women is very important, I have had to enact many women characters with their own struggles, victories, defeats, some that survived, others that did not, and they are not only characters, I am sure that they are the image of many Mexican women who face and fight for their dignity,” said Talancon.
