“Peace is the foundation on which more just and prosperous societies are built. It is also an engine that drives economic development, job creation, social development, knowledge and culture”, said the Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, when inaugurating the Second Ibero-American Meeting “Voices and Journalism for Peace”.

The Governor said that in Guanajuato, we will continue to team up to achieve a more peaceful, fair and prosperous society in which everyone has more opportunities for development.

“We thank our allies on this day, the Civil Association Somos Iberoamérica Periodismo por la Paz for this praiseworthy call; and to the Latin American Association of Parliamentary Audiovisual Communication”, said Rodriguez Vallejo.

“In a world that is increasingly divided by hatred and social polarization, building a space for peace where the dialogue of valuable, consistent and powerful voices prevails is of enormous significance,” said the Governor.

The Governor noted that they are voices that have a lot to contribute, such as Rigoberta Menchu, Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1992, a great friend of Guanajuato; or Makasiwe Mandela, daughter of former South African president Nelson Mandela, great social defender of global causes and Jose Angel Gurria, president of the Paris Forum for Peace.

Also participating in the event are the journalists Pablo Latapi, Alberto Pelaez, Kasia Widerko, Anabel Hernandez and Omar Sanchez de Tagle, among other.

“They are valuable and relevant voices that I am sure will provide us, in addition to a great message, inspiration to continue building opportunities for peace from each of our trenches. And the most important thing is that these Meetings translate into actions,” said Rodriguez Vallejo.

For this reason, he added, Guanajuato has been a meeting point and vertex of will and efforts in the construction of the common good. Here, initiatives have been supported that promote social values, respect for human rights, sustainability and the conditions that favor comprehensive and inclusive development.

“Peace is the foundation on which more just and prosperous societies are built. It is a human right that we must all defend. Peace is also progress,” said Rodriguez Vallejo.

The Governor said that the Government of Guanajuato is forming a great team with society in the construction of safe spaces for peace. It is a responsibility that we must all assume.

“Once again: Welcome to the Second Ibero-American Meeting Voices and Journalism for Peace,” said the Governor.

The goal of the event is to discuss crucial issues and foster collaboration between journalists and global leaders in promoting peace. And it is a unique opportunity to strengthen the commitment to peace and social justice, said Jorge Robledo, the President of Somos Iberoamerica Periodismo por la Paz.
