The celebration of Guanajuato’s 200 years as a Free and Sovereign State arrives to the door of Mexican homes and more than 190 countries with the postal stamp, “Guanajuato 200 Years of Greatness”, issued by the Mexican Postal Service –SEPOMEX-.
The stamp cancellation ceremony was held at the Postal Palace and was presided over by Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo and the General Director of the Mexican Postal Service, Rocio Barcenas Molina.
“Our gratitude to the Mexican Postal Service for supporting this initiative to commemorate these two hundred years of greatness and history as a free and sovereign State”, said Rodriguez Vallejo.
“Thank you for helping us share with the other states of the Mexican Republic, through this stamp, the extraordinary historical and cultural wealth of Guanajuato; with actions like this, national unity and especially pride in being Mexican are encouraged,” said the Governor.
In the history of Mexico, said Rodriguez Vallejo, many Guanajuatenses stand and have committed themselves to forging this great nation and thanks to those women and men, Guanajuato is celebrating 200 years as a Free and Sovereign Federative State.
Furthermore, Guanajuato was the initiator of the National Independence Movement 213 years ago for its vocation of freedom.
Guanajuato was the Cradle of Federalism 200 years ago as one of the first states that formed the Federation, and one of the ways to commemorate it is the postage stamp.
In addition to covering the cost of postal shipping, this stamp promotes the identity and pride of the people of Guanajuato, since it features representative figures of the history, music, art and culture of Guanajuato, such as:
- Miguel Hidalgo, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Maria Grever and Diego Rivera
The stamp “Guanajuato 200 years of Greatness, a Free and Sovereign State”, was designed by the Government of the State of Guanajuato and has a refinement by the postal designer Rodolfo Espindola Betancourt.
The stamp is an illustration with digital composition with cyan, magenta, yellow, black and security inks, with an offset print on one-sided matte white coated paper measuring 40×24 millimeters, with 13 comb perforations.
200 thousand stamps were printed in the Stamp and Securities Printing Shops; each one will cost 7 pesos to the public.
