In order to protect and promote the commercialization of vegetables and grains from Guanajuato, the Secretary of Agro-Food and Rural Development of Guanajuato –SDAyR- presented to the representatives of the agro-food sector the implementation of the Brand Guanajuato Premium Agricultural Zone of Mexico.
Paulo Banuelos Rosales, head of the SDAyR, reported that the purpose of this brand will be to promote the marketing of all producers and agricultural companies in Guanajuato, through a badge that adds prestige to their production and attests to its quality and safety.
“Today more than ever, when sometimes we don’t know how our food is produced, or what we are putting in our mouths, we need these seals that guarantee the quality and safety of what is produced in Guanajuato, which is plentiful and really good”, said the Secretary.
The initiative was formulated with advice from Francisco Javier Trujillo Arriaga, former director of the National Agro-Food Health, Safety and Quality Service (Senasica), and presented this day to leaders of associations, organizations, product systems and representatives of the agro-food sector for their information and subsequent adoption.
In his presentation, Javier Trujillo explained that the Brand Guanajuato Premium Agricultural Zone of Mexico will be a commercial badge that will be granted to any producer or agricultural company that meets the requirements that their markets demand of them, so they can place their products in more formal markets. Other producers who just want to start participating in those markets will also benefit from the use of the brand.
Trujillo said that it will not be another certification to be achieved, but rather it will allow the safety and health certifications that each company or producer already has to be grouped and displayed through the brand, which will give prestige and protection to their production.
Another advantage is that it will mean an incentive for those who comply with safety and health standards; and will make it easier to sanction those who fail to comply with the protocols.
Paulo Banuelos highlighted that the brand would be reinforced if the State Law on Plant Health and Agricultural Safety is consolidated, which is being analyzed by the Congress of the State of Guanajuato. In the presentation, it was agreed to hold another meeting where details of the brand’s operation will be presented, to advance its application.
