In order to assist Guanajuatenses who live abroad and their families in Guanajuato when they present a situation of need in their communities of origin, the state government offers its support and solidarity.
Veronica Toscano Leger, liaison for the Secretary of Migrants and International Affairs –SMEI- in Atlanta, Georgia reported that it is Don Felix Aguilar Castro, 62, who on May 4 was repairing his truck on the side of the road on his way to work, when another vehicle crashed hi from behind.
“He suffered a serious accident that left him with multiple fractures to his head and body. To save him, doctors performed emergency brain surgery on him, but his condition is still delicate”, said Toscano.
He said that this mishap made it impossible for him to work and since 3 months ago, he still requires specialized care.
Given Don Felix’s desire to be with his family in the municipality of Jaral del Progreso, the person in charge of the SMEI liaison office in Georgia, Veronica Toscano Leger, began the negotiations working together with the Consulate of Mexico in Atlanta, to coordinate the ambulance flight to the Bajíio International Airport, in Silao.
“On behalf of his family, they contacted us to request support from the government of the state of Guanajuato and the Secretary to start the procedures. Help was provided and fortunately Don Felix was able to be transferred to Jaral del Progreso”, said Toscano.
Upon arrival, personnel from the SMEI and the Ministry of Public Health received Don Felix to transfer him under the care of paramedics from the Emergency System of the State of Guanajuato (SUEG) directly to Jaral del Progreso, to be treated in a local hospital.
The supports offered by the “Safe Path for Migrants” program are:
- Transfer of remains and/or funeral expenses
- Repatriation of migrants
- Transfer of patients
- Humanitarian permits or visas with emergency appointments
- Visa management for United States social security pension processing
