For the third consecutive year, the BJX Bajio International Film Festival will celebrate the seventh art from June 13 to 17 in Guanajuato City, a benchmark city in the Bajio region and throughout Mexico that demands the highest commitment to the culture and artistic expression of the community.
This year the BJX, with the motto “Guanajuato CineCiudad Cervantina de America”, will be held with a program focused on the culture of inclusion, tolerance and diversity. In this edition, the United States and Coyoacan will be the country and the Municipality guests of honor.
This was announced by Jorge Cabrejos Samame, Director of Marketing, On behalf of Juan Jose Alvarez Brunel, Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato; Alejandro Navarro Saldana, Mayor of Guanajuato City; Adriana Camarena de Obeso, director of the State Institute of Culture; and Christian Vilches, artistic director of the BJX Fest.
The event will be enjoyed in public spaces in Guanajuato, because “every corner, every square, every alley is a film set, which allow us to generate any film project”, said Cabrejos Samame.
Civil society, the private initiative, the artistic community of the region and, of course, the City’s Government, also promote this event that allows people to live the experience of the best of Latin American and world cinematography in a playful and with the scope of obtaining a positive economic impact on the entire community.
At BJX FEST, a tribute will be paid to the film critic and promoter, Jorge Pantoja Merino, and the “Alonso Echanove” medal will be presented to the actress Patricia Reyes Spindola and the actors Alberto Estrella and Luis Felipe Tovar, there will also be a participation of the Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival and the Sexual Diversity Animation Festival -DiversAnima-, as well as the commemorative exhibition for the 60th anniversary of the National School of Cinematographic Arts –ENAC- of the National Autonomous University of Mexico -UNAM-.
Organizers announced other activities like:
- Screenings, parties, exhibitions, as well as a wide selection of some 64 national and international short films in competition, and 5 films that compete for the “Guerrero de Plata” award
There will also be multiple activities to appreciate the seventh art in movie theaters and outdoor venues, along with the creation of short films in the fifth edition of Lab//KinoRoom.
