“All social sectors must be involved in building a better state and a better world, because social participation forms strong societies, with information, communication and action”, said the Secretary of Government of Guanajuato, Jesus Oviedo Herrera, at the inauguration of the First Ibero-American Meeting of Journalism for Peace on behalf of the Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo.

“I am pleased that today our State is the host for this First Ibero-American Meeting of Journalism for Peace; We want to listen to you, know your opinion, your proposals, your ideas, your analysis of how we can work together to find solutions and generate social harmony in families”, said the Secretary.

“It is you, the journalists, those witnesses of reality, story tellers in the present, who have the pulse of what people feel and live in the streets. Who better than you to carry out this analysis of reality and carry that voice of those who suffer, of those who succeed, of those who claim and of those who propose,” said the Secretary of Government.

The President of Soi Paz, Jorge Robledo, said that it was a group of journalists who decided to take actions beyond the newsrooms and work with their lives by creating messages of peace in Latin America and in countries that do not speak the same language.

“We have opened the conversation, dialogue and debate; Here we will talk about this trade and we will have workshops, but we also open a window to young people”, said the Official.

“What a journalist offers is enormous, and you have caused important revolutions to find solutions as agents of change,” said Jorge Robledo.

The Spanish journalist, Alberto Pelaez, said that “the job of a journalist is to publicize daily events, since it is important to be able to express oneself freely and generate awareness, responsibly, acting as speakers, to expose a real world that sometimes you don’t see it, but it is there”.

“Journalists are prosecutors, we are auditors, we raise awareness, that is why our presence is so important and to be able to establish the vehicle between society and what is happening”, said the Spanish journalist.

The Panel ‘Journalism for peace in Latin America’ was held, with the journalists Grecia Carrillo, Ryma Sheermohammadi and Gonzalo Caceres.

The Coordinator of Social Communication of the State of Guanajuato, Alan Sahir Márquez Becerra, said that from the perspective of institutional communication, a culture of peace is promoted from government institutions.

He said that communicating is about a social commitment from the trench in which the individual develops, and if it is done from a unilateral approach, there is a center for the development of the message and therefore, a responsibility for what is issued.

The events of the day were attended by journalists, opinion leaders, personalities and students from various parts of Mexico.
