In the 50th edition of the Cervantino International Festival, the Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, presented the ‘Maestro Eugenio Trueba Olivares’ Award to the Music Band of the State of Guanajuato for their participation in this festival throughout its history.
The award, established in 2012, recognizes outstanding Guanajuatenses for the realization of the Cervantino International Festival.
“With the delivery of this award we perpetuate, not only the memory and legacy of a great humanist such as Eugenio Trueba Olivares, but we also offer recognition to the talent of the people of Guanajuato”, said Rodriguez Vallejo.
“Today we are awarding one of the oldest musical groups in the country and in Latin America, it was created in 1855 as the War Band of the First Light Battalion, so this year we will be celebrating its 167th anniversary, and it has been part of the history and traditions of our city of Guanajuato for more than a century and a half,” said the Governor.
Guanajuato, said Rodriguez Vallejo, is a land of great artists and has a culture and heritage that must be cared for, and part of that identity is music as a tradition, and in 1855, then governor of Guanajuato, Manuel Doblado, signed a Decree Government to create the State Band, which has its origins in 1767 with the formation of the first military groups in the city of Guanajuato.
The Governor announced the Decree to name the State Band as ‘Intangible Heritage of Guanajuato’ for its musical quality, and instructed the General Director of Culture of Guanajuato, Adriana Camarena de Obeso, to carry out the necessary procedures.
In the presentation of the Award, the Governor also announced the prompt publication of the book ‘The Music Band of the Government of the State of Guanajuato 1855-1957’, as a work that “perpetuates the history of greatness of a group such as the Music Band of the State,” he said.
