The International Cervantino Festival -FIC-, to be held October 11 to 27, 2024, announced its programming for the 52nd edition, which will have Oaxaca and Brazil as guests of honor. The artistic treasures of these two regions and the wide range of events that encompass music, dance, theater, visual arts, cinema, conversations, rehearsals, productions, workshops, virtual and sports activities are elements that reaffirm the FIC’s commitment to being a point of global encounter for arts and culture.

The programming is made up of 117 groups, 70 national and 47 international, which will make it possible for you to enjoy 116 shows and 133 functions with artists and companies from 24 countries.

The presentation of the programming occurred at the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City, in the morning; while in the afternoon it was held at the Juarez Theater in Guanajuato.

Present at the first event were the Secretary of Culture of the Government of Mexico, Alejandra Frausto Guerrero; the governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo; the governor of Oaxaca, Salomon Jara Cruz; the Brazilian ambassador to Mexico, His Excellency. Mr. Fernando Estellita Lins from Salvo Coimbra and the director of the Cervantino International Festival and Cultural Circuits, Mariana Aymerich Ordonez.

Sound diversity will be one of the highlighted elements in the 52nd edition of the festival, as it will range from rock and ska to classical music, including bolero.

For example, Los Autenticos Decadentes will make you vibrate with their revealed genome (DNA album), that is, with their vast musical range that they have developed throughout their musical career. While Vocalconsort Berlin will showcase their versatility in instrumentation and repertoire with an evening of chamber music showcasing their knowledge of five centuries of music.

Another Mexican representative is Silvana Estrada, one of the most enveloping and nostalgic voices that led her to win the Latin GRAMMY, in 2022, as Best New Artist, in addition to being nominated for the GRAMMY as Best Global Music Performance in 2024.

Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, said: “El Cervantino has to continue being in Guanajuato, for Mexico and for the whole world, because it was born here and the tradition is given to it by its people; we have to make it spectacularly. Long live the Cervantino International Festival”.

The guest country, Brazil, will arrive with 18 productions that will captivate with the versatility and dynamism. Among the shows that stand out is Dog without Feathers, by the Deborah Colker Dance Company, where a choreography based on the homonymous poem by João Cabral is presented.

The Brazilian ambassador to Mexico, His Excellency. Mr. Fernando Estellita Lins from Salvo Coimbra, said: “It is an honor to share this Cervantino movement with Oaxaca, a State deservedly admired for its impressive cultural manifestations. We share a lot with Oaxacans, including the richness and importance of our African influences. We want the arts of Brazil to take root more and more in this country, to find a home in Guanajuato, in Oaxaca, throughout Mexico, and for the arts of Mexico to also find an increasingly broader place in our country. We have a lot in common and even more to discover about each other.”

Oaxaca, the guest State, will inaugurate the 52nd edition with one of the most emblematic festivities in the country: La Guelaguetza, which shows the traditions, customs and rituals of the eight regions of the State. The Brass Ensemble of the Oaxaca State Music Band will offer a concert that evokes a spiritual state with works from the Renaissance, as well as the so-called Oaxacan hymn titled God Never Dies, by Macedonio Alcala.

The governor of Oaxaca, Salomon Jara Cruz, said: “We feel very proud of this invitation to which the Oaxacan delegation will attend with great enthusiasm and showing the color of our culture and traditions; Oaxaca is the cultural heart of Mexico and with that fraternal heart we are going to share the magic of our land with everyone”.

With the University of Guanajuato, a public creation project will be launched, to contribute to and enrich the reflection experience of the student community during the FIC.
