April 14 marked the 10th anniversary of the debut of the Coro de Teatro del Bicentenario, a group that was created in 2013 with the purpose of becoming a community choir , capable of addressing the wide lyrical repertoire of different periods and styles.
The choir made its debut at the beginning of the lyrical season of the then Bicentennial Theater with the opera Madama Butterfly, by Puccini.
Its work during these first 10 years has led it to share the stage with great national and international lyric figures, such as Ramon Vargas, George Petean, Andeka Gorrotxategi, Arturo Chacon-Cruz, Jesus Leon, Maria Katzarava, Violeta Davalos, Guadalupe Paz, Sophie Gordeladze, Noe Colin, Flavio Oliver, Mateo Macchioni, Carlos Almaguer and Kristian Benedikt, among other.
The musical directors that have directed the choir are Marco Boemi, Marzio Conti, Sebastien Rouland, Arthur Fagen, Federico Santi, Jose Arean, Gabriel Garrido, Roberto Beltran-Zavala, Antoni Ros-Marba, Rodrigo Macias and Enrique Patron de Rueda.
It has performed under the stage direction of Enrique Singer, Sergio Vela, Luis Martin Solis, Marco Antonio Silva, Juliana Faesler, Mauricio Garcia-Lozano, Ruby Tagle, Paco Azorin and Luis Miguel Lombana.
Its symphonic choral repertoire includes:
- Los Planetas by G. Holst with the Aguascalientes Symphony Orchestra, Requiem Mass KV 626, and Mass in C Major KV 317 by WA Mozart, Ninth Symphony by LV Beethoven, The Creation of J. Haydn, the Dances Polvtsianas by A. Borodin, Symphonies 3and 8 by G. Mahler and Symphonies 2, 3 and 13 by D. Shostakovich, in collaboration with the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato, a group with which it has generated an important artistic link in Guanajuato
There has been collaboration with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of the State of Zacatecas, the Chamber Orchestra of Leon, the Camerata Renacimiento, the Symphony Orchestra of the State of Mexico and the Sinaloa Symphonic Orchestra of the Arts.
Along with the operatic, symphonic choral and oratorio repertoire, the choir of the Teatro del Bicentenario has performed various works of chamber music and Latin American popular music where, in parallel, it has developed an abundant concert activity outside the Teatro del Bicentenario, in Leon and other municipalities in Guanajuato, with the purpose of bringing choral music to the most diverse sectors of society, with special emphasis on the population in vulnerable conditions.
